The organizers

The non-profit Diogène has more than 30 years of experience in the production of independent artistic documentary films, both in Belgium and abroad. The association has worked in collaboration with television channels, international institutions and Doctors Without Borders, and has organised cultural and social events in Europe.

The festival

The Millenium Festival was founded in 2009 by filmmakers Zlatina Rousseva and Lubomir Gueorguiev with the support of Antonio Vigilante, director of the United Nations Brussels, to bring a human face and an artistic perspective to the major issues of our time, initially referred to as the “Millennium Development Goals”. Drawing on the filmmakers’ extensive field experience, the festival offers an emotional and personal view of these goals (now known as the SDGs) to resonate with people. This creative and original approach has been praised by figures like Ban Ki-Moon and Kristalina Georgieva, underscoring the festival’s impact and international reach.

The 17th edition of the festival will take place from March 28 to April 6, 2025.

Our mission

Through the lens of compelling documentary cinema, we examine the complexities of our world, exposing injustices, amplifying marginalized voices, and inspiring audiences to make a difference. Documentary cinema is the strongest testimony of our times and the source of sustainable information.

We believe that this cinema can tear down walls, build bridges, and inspire us to dream of a better future. We celebrate the raw, unapologetic voices of independent filmmakers who use their art to speak truth to power and demand change.

We believe that the potential for greatness, change, and transformation lies within each of us. At the MILLENIUM Festival, together, through the power of documentary cinema, we become stronger. The future is waiting, and we are ready to fight for it.
