Synopsis
“My Friend Päivi” is a portrait of the Finnish artist Päivi Pennola. Our friendly relationship, which began in Belgium, is now anchored in Finland, and is the framework of the film, illuminating it from start to finish. Back home, Päivi devotes her life to what she loves passionately: gardening, painting, writing. My camera moves between the house and the garden, settles on the beauty of things, opens spaces for dialogue, explores and exposes Päivi’s creations, paintings, sketchbooks, writing books.
The film reveals a free and independent woman who is as pensive and profound as she is willingly burlesque. Her artistic personality is as modest as it is rich and radical, inhabited only by the need to live and create as much as nature.
