For its first ciné-club of 2025, the Millenium Festival invites you to (re-)discover Ash & Money!
Previously showcased at the Millenium Festival in 2014, Ash & Money, directed by Ene-Liis Sempeer and Tiit Ojasoo, pulls back the curtain on an improbable yet revealing project that sheds light on our society. With ten international awards to its name, this documentary blends art, performance, and manipulation, challenging us to question the structures of our political and media institutions. As citizens, can we truly escape our civic responsibilities? Or are we, despite ourselves, all mere pawns in the power games of these towering institutions?
Synopsis
Ash & Money delves into Unified Estonia, a two-month project by Theatre NO99 that imagines a fictional super-party inspired by contemporary political and media strategies. Recycling populist ideas from various parties, Unified Estonia comes dangerously close to winning the election. With 7,000 participants, this immersive performance highlights the democratic, media, and social tensions in Estonia in 2010, prompting us to reflect on the power mechanisms that shape our societies.
