Synopsis
Considered as the white gold of Palestine, natural stone is the country’s most sought-after raw material. However, the stone mining industry widely caters to the needs of Israeli construction, including for the illegal settlements on Palestinian land. In the villages, cities and refugee camps, natural stone is mined at an unbearable rate, leading to social, environmental and health problems. Palestinian complaints are met with Israeli repression and the disinterest of international organizations. Palestinian authorities remain in denial and helpless in this disturbing situation.
