Synopsis: 

This film tells the vivid story of Soviet cuisine, a unique socio-cultural phenomenon of the history and life of the Soviet Union. As the German philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach noted back in the 19th century: “A man is what he eats.” Boris Karadzhev hopes that this culinary journey will help European viewers to understand the mentality and the motives of the people in Soviet and Post-Soviet Russia.

Bio Director: 

Boris Karadzhev was born in 1948 in Perm. As film director and scriptwriter, he participated in more than 60 documentary film projects including international co-productions in Finland, The Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Great Britain etc. From 2001 to 2006, he worked as Artistic Director of Russian Central Documentary Film Studio (RCSDF). He is also a Professor of documentary film directing at the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) since 2002.
